Collection: Sao Paulo Subtropical Biome

The São Paulo subtropical biome is a diverse ecosystem located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

As an ecotone area, it lies at the junction of three major biomes, providing a unique range of flora and fauna that is different from the surrounding regions. The mixed ombrophilous forest, dense ombrophilous forest, and cerrado biomes all contribute to the unique biodiversity of the São Paulo subtropical biome, including plants native to the pampas, which are typically found further south in Argentina and Uruguay. Despite this, the cerrado in São Paulo maintains distinct vegetation that is not found anywhere else.

Light frost in the area also means that the fruits grown here have adapted to cooler temperatures, which further contributes to the unique range of species found in the São Paulo subtropical biome.
