Sugar Salak Seeds

Salak Gula Pasir is the sweetest among Salak Bali cultivar. As the name suggests “Sanding Sugar” in English, it tastes almost as sweet as sugar when fully ripens.

The fruit is rather round in shape and has a blackish-brown skin color. Just like the other snake fruit cultivars or varieties, soft spine covers its skin. The pulp is white, not too thick, and unlike Salak Pondoh, it doesn’t have a thin layer of membrane.

Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis: Apomictic palm, stem or semi- stem, up to 4 m tall (except the Anã cultivar, 90 cm). It differs from the typical variety of S. zalacca mainly by the narrower and more regularly spaced leaflets on the class="tooltiptext">a stem of a plant, bearing flower stalks in short intervalsrachis. The female flowers have tongue- shaped, thick and obtuse class="tooltiptext">The part of the pistil (female part of flower) that receives pollenstigmas. Basal class="tooltiptext">flowers of a plantinflorescence normally resulting in clusters of 10 to 20 fruits. Fruits are laterally flattened, divided into three segments with 0-1 seed. Very sweet flavor, with almost zero acidity. Ripe from late summer to autumn. Fruits of the Bali cultivar are typically class="tooltiptext">tingly, drying sensationastringent before maturation.

The fruits are consumed raw or in jam. They differ from Salacca zalacca in that they have loose seeds and, in general, are sweeter.
